Q: I think I really struggle with trusting myself and definitely look for outside validation… will you offer more tips on how to move away from that habit?
A: Self-trust isn’t something we have to build from scratch—it’s already within us. Our true self knows. What we’re really doing is clearing the static, removing the conditioning that taught us to doubt, and allowing ourselves to return to what’s always been there.
Here are some ways to unmask the antenna and deepen our trust in ourselves:
1. Slow Down & Listen
We often doubt ourselves because we’re moving too fast, letting outside noise drown out our inner wisdom. Slowing down creates space for clarity.
Practice: Take a few deep breaths before making decisions. Notice what your body feels—tight or expansive? That’s your knowing.
2. Follow the First Yes
Your first instinct is usually the right one. Doubt creeps in when you second-guess.
Practice: Next time you feel a clear "yes" (even for something small—what to eat, where to walk, who to text), act on it immediately without debating.
3. Release the Fear of “Getting It Wrong”
Trusting yourself isn’t about always making “perfect” choices—it’s about knowing you can handle any outcome.
Practice: Instead of asking, “What if I get it wrong?” shift to “What if I trust myself and it leads somewhere better than I can imagine?”
4. Keep Promises to Yourself
The more you show yourself that your word matters, the more you believe in yourself.
Practice: Start with something tiny—drink a glass of water when you say you will. Follow through. You are showing yourself that you are trustworthy.
5. Celebrate Your Knowing
Self-trust grows when we acknowledge the times we followed our wisdom and it led to something good.
Practice: At the end of the day, reflect: When did I trust myself today? How did it feel? What unfolded because of it?
6. Tune Into Your Inner Authority, Not External Approval
Doubt arises when we outsource our decisions to others. Trust means checking in with your knowing first.
Practice: Before asking for advice, sit with yourself and ask, What do I already know?
7. Embrace Experimentation & Play
Trust grows when we allow ourselves to explore, rather than seeking certainty first.
Practice: Approach life as an experiment—try something, observe, adjust. No pressure, just curiosity.
8. Reaffirm: "I Am Safe to Trust Myself"
At the core of self-doubt is often a fear that trusting ourselves is unsafe. It’s time to rewrite that story.
Practice: Say aloud (or write daily):
"I am safe to trust myself. My inner wisdom is clear. I know what is right for me."
Trusting yourself is a homecoming—a return to what has always been true. Let it be easy. Let it be yours.
